We have sown our first experimental three quarter acre of barley. We worked up the three paddocks where the pigs pastured from February to May with a disking, plow, and another disk. Then broadcast sowed barley seed, purchased from another Whatcom County farmer, and disked in the barley. Followed by a solid drenching June rain. Now we are waiting for germination. This will be food for 2017 pigs in the fall, and is a way for us to practice growing our own grain for future years. We purchased our own disk to do this, and I think I will have to make a blog post about the disk, and what a versatile farm implement that is. Thanks for reading!
